Motorway Police have claimed to foil an attempt to smuggle 7.8 kg heroin near Sial Mor on the Lahore- Islamabad Motorway, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, Syed Imran Shah, the officers including DSP Khurram Shah and Patrolling Officer Imran Tabassum signaled a vehicle near Sial Mor to stop; however, instead of complying, the driver accelerated in an attempt to flee.

Despite the driver's efforts to escape, the Motorway Police successfully pursued the vehicle and thwarted the escape plan.

The occupants of the vehicle, realizing the chase was futile, abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot into nearby fields.

Quick action by the patrolling officers resulted in the apprehension of both suspects and recovered heroin weighing 7.8 kilograms from their possession, the spokesperson added.

The arrested individuals, identified as Aasatam Khan and Sadiq Akbar, were found to be involved in the smuggling of high-quality heroin.

The international value of the seized drug is estimated to be more than seven crores in Pakistani rupees.

Following legal proceedings, the Motorway Police handed over the arrested suspects, the seized heroin, and the vehicle to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Faisalabad.

Sector Commander Ghulam Qadir Sindhu praised the commendable performance of the patrolling officers, led by DSP Khurram Shah, in successfully thwarting the drug smuggling attempt on the motorway.
