Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) chief Fazlur Rehman has said ex-COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa and former ISI DG were behind bringing the no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan.
“The no-confidence motion was brought at the behest of the then Army Chief and ISI DG,” he said in an informal conversation with 24NewsHD TV channel.
He added: “General Faiz Hameed came to me to make me lead the movement within the system. I refused ... when all the political parties came together, I became a supporter.
“Bajwa Sahib and General Faiz Hameed urged all political parties to bring in the no-confidence motion
He continued: “In the presence of Mr Bajwa and Faiz, all the political parties agreed on the no-confidence motion.
“Shehbaz Sharif came to me, I refused and made it clear that we will sit in the opposition. Shehbaz did want to step down."
He stressed that PTI persons will come tonight and sit and talks will held with them.
Fazl was the president was the multi-party alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) formed to topple Imran Khan’s government.
The PDM removed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in April 2022 and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif became the prime minister for 16 months.
Imran Khan first alleged the US removed him through a plot but Washington denied any wrongdoing. Later, the PTI founder accused Gen Bajwa of ousting him from the PMO.
Following the February 8 election results, no party has a clear majority. The JUI chief is among the politicians crying foul. He has been out to launch a protest over rigging in the election.
