Nepra asked to hike electricity tariff by Rs5.62 per unit

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sought approval from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to massively raise the tariff by Rs5.62 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Already grappling with the impact of skyrocketing inflation, the consumers are set to see their woes multiply manifold after the fresh surge in electricity rates.
The CPPA sought approval from the Nepra for the proposed increase on account of monthly fuel adjustment for the month of December.
The Nepra is set to review the CPPA's request on January 31, and if approved, consumers may face a financial burden exceeding Rs49 billion.
