Reacting to the government’s decision to approach the Supreme Court (SC) to ban the PTI, former National Assembly (NA) speaker and the party stalwart Asad Qaiser said on Monday that now when the PTI’s strength in the parliament would increase after getting reserved seats, it would hold consultations to bring a no-trust motion against the government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), he, while commenting on the continuous detention of party worker Sanam Javed, asked what kind of treatment that was. “Do states treat their citizens the way Sanam is being treated? After all, a state is equated with a mother. Can anyone expect a mother to be cruel towards her child?”

Asad said he saluted Sanam for her courage and bravery. “This girl has proved to be more courageous than everybody else in the party,” he said, adding, “It is a matter of shame and extreme disgrace that the state is treating its daughter like this.”

A PTI spokesman said in a statement that the latest bid to ban the party "is a sign of panic as they have realised the courts can't be threatened and put under pressure".

A spokesperson for the PTI told AFP that the party "will not tolerate" the government's effort to ban it. "PTI has become stronger than before. We will face it," Raoof Hasan said.
