The mystery surrounding the death of three children in the Kharadar area in Karachi remains unsolved so far.
However, the Sindh Food Authority on Tuesday sealed a multinational fast food restaurant on I.I. Chundrigar Road and an ice-cream parlour on Burns Road. The victims had reportedly visited both these food outlets with their mother on Monday night. The Sindh Food Authority also took samples of food from both outlets and sent to the lab for tests. These eateries will remain closed until the lab reports come in.
According to the details available so far, the health condition of Ayeza (11), Saad (8) and Suffa (2) deteriorated soon after they reached home after eating burger and ice-cream in the company of their mother. They were taken to a nearby hospital on Tuesday morning and they passed away during treatment.
The father of the children was in Quetta at the time of their death and he had to be called back to Karachi in emergency. The children were buried in Meva Shah. Their father refused to take any action against the suspected eateries.
In a related development, Kharadar General Hospital has submitted a report on the incident to the police. According to the report, the children were brought to the hospital at 6:00 am on Tuesday.
Later in the day, Saad was again brought to the hospital’s emergency at 11:55 am on Tuesday, but he had passed away before reaching the hospital. Suffa died just four minutes after she was put on oxygen. Ayeza was sent to another hospital and she breathed her last on way to the hospital.
Saad and Ayeza had eaten burgers on Monday night, while Suffa had eaten just fries. Their attendant told the hospital staff about what they had eaten and presence of an insecticide at home. Insect killer capsules were also present in the house.
As family of the children refused to take any action against the suspected eateries, police have registered a case on behalf of the state.
