First woman candidate elected unopposed in Bajaur LG polls

For the first time in the history of tribal areas, a woman candidate belonging to the Jamaat-i-Islami has been elected unopposed in the local government election in the ultra-conservative tribal district Bajaur, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Reportedly, no other candidate submitted his nomination papers to contest the LG polls in Bajaur and the only contestant, Sana Pervaiz, on Tuesday was elected unopposed

The Election Commission of Pakistan while issuing the schedule for holding local government elections in the first phase in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's 17 districts, announced holding the polls on Dec 19.

The 17 districts include Malakand, Bajaur, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, DI Khan, Bannu, Tank, Haripur, Khyber, Mohmand, Charsadda, Hangu and Lakki Marwat districts.
