The Cypher Assistant in the Crypto Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Nauman confirmed that there is a copy of the cypher here in the court as he has seen the original cypher received in the department.
The Special Court (Official Secret) Islamabad Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard the cypher case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday.
The 24News HD TV Channel obtained the details of the important witness and lawyers' cross-examination against Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi regarding the cypher case.
According to the document, the officer who recorded the statement before the court on Wednesday belongs to the Cypher Section of the MOFA.
As per the channel report, Cypher Assistant Nauman assigned the official number I0678 to the cypher and replied in the cross-examination of Shah Mehmood Qureshi's lawyer that he received a cypher telegram from Washington in the mail on March 8.
He added that after registering the cypher in the office, the cypher was handed over to Security Officer Imran Sajid.
During the cross-examination, Noman said there was a copy of the cypher in the court as he had seen the original but he did not bring the office register to the court for comparison.
Nauman said it was correct that the sender's name was not written in the cypher register, adding that the cypher was sent by Shoaib Hafeez from Washington. He said it is normal not to write the sender's name in the register.
He also told the court that the name of the machine on which the cypher was received could not be disclosed in court as this machine is secret and cannot be brought up in court proceedings.
He said it is wrong that he is a 'staff witness' so he is not telling you about the MORSE-CODE machine.
However, he accepted that he had decoded the cypher and saved it in his system as it is his job to write the telegram in clear words and this responsibility of him is according to the secret rules and regulations which he cannot tell in the court.
Replying to another question about the sender from Washington, Cypher Assistant Nauman also told the court that he never met Shoaib Hafeez who sent the cypher.
