The head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, arrived in Lahore from Karachi along with key party members to meet with former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief, Nawaz Sharif.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the meeting between the PML-N president and JUI chief is set to take place today at Jati Umra, Nawaz Sharif's residence.

The JUI delegation includes prominent figures such as Maulana Asad Mahmood, Engineer Zia-ur-Rehman, Kamran Murtaza, Usman Badini, and Mufti Abrar Ahmed.

Sources said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will discuss the proposed 26th constitutional amendments with former premier Nawaz Sharif, seeking his support and ensuring the PML-N’s backing for the changes.

The sources said this comes after successful talks between the JUI and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), where both parties reached an agreement on the draft amendments during a meeting held in Karachi.

Yesterday, JUI and PPP confirmed their consensus on the proposed constitutional amendments after delegation-level talks between Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at Bilawal House in Karachi.

Both leaders expressed optimism about securing PML-N’s endorsement and aimed to further solidify the agreement.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, during a press conference after the meeting with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto in Karachi, stated that he intends to take Nawaz Sharif into confidence on the draft and will also approach Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to gather unanimous parliamentary support for the legislation.

Bilawal echoed his sentiments, expressing hope that the PML-N will support the constitutional draft, as the PPP and JUI have already agreed on the principles of the charter of democracy.
