Relations between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its ally Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are apparently deteriorating at least at the Punjab level.

In the latest move, the ruling PML-N has got cases registered against the PPP office-bearers who delivered speeches against the government at an Awami Jirga in Murree. Some of the PPP officials have been booked on charges of terrorism. However, no case has been registered against former prime minister and estranged PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi who also delivered a speech at the Jirga.

On the other hand, the PML-N has been consistently seeking time from the PPP’s dispute resolution committee to address the Sindh-based party’s concerns.

The PML-N committee led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and consisting of federal ministers has been assuring the PPP dispute resolution committee that latter’s concerns would be addressed soon.

PPP Chairman Bilawal-Bhutto Zardari has also complained to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about the government’s failure to honour its commitments with his party.

PPP leaders Murtaza Satti, Mehreen Anwar Raja and Asif Ashfaq Raja among others are named in the FIR, which was registered after the Murree Awami Jirga.
