At least four people were killed and two injured critically in a collision between a car and a trailer on the motorway between Toba Tek Singh and Gojra on Saturday.

According to rescuers, people in the car were going from Faisalabad to Khairpur. Three children died at the scene, while a woman died on her way to the hospital due to critical injuries. Poor visibility due to fog on the motorway is said to be the cause of the accident

Keeping in view the possibility of such accidents on the motorways and national highways, the authorities close these main arteries of the country as fog intensifies in the winter season, especially December and January.

On Saturday evening, the authorities closed the motorway from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan and from Pindi Bhattian to Sham Kot due to fog. Dense fog also covered the National Highway completely.

There was dense fog everywhere from Lahore to Sahiwal. Chichawatni, Mian Channu, Khanewal and Multan also remained under a thick blanket of fog. Motorway M-III was also closed from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem and Multan to Khanewal.  Motorway M-V was closed from Multan to Rahim Yar Khan due to dense fog, says a spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorways Police.

Motorway M-IV was closed from Pindi Bhattian to Shamkot. The motorways police also issued special safety guidelines for people travelling during these extreme weather conditions.
