The federal government has formed a joint investigation team (JIT) to identify and take action against those who are uploading content on social media against the judges of the superior courts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.
The JIT will be headed by the Additional Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and will include representatives from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the Islamabad Police and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The six-member committee will determine the culprits involved in the campaign and also make recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future. The committee will submit its report to the Ministry of Interior within 15 days. The FIA headquarters will be used as the committee secretariat.
The formation of the JIT comes after the Supreme Court took notice of a social media campaign against its judges and sought a report from the FIA on the matter. The apex court had expressed concern over the malicious propaganda against the judiciary and its impact on public confidence in the institution.
