Federal Ministers and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leaders declared the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case an "open-and-shut case," alleging that the Al-Qadir University is unchartered and a "fake" institution with only 300 to 400 students.
Addressing a joint press conference, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar termed Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi's sentence on merits according to the law, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar emphasised, "The £190 million case was clear-cut, but the PTI founder still has the right to appeal. The money sent abroad illegally belongs to the public."
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated, "The £190 million scandal is a mega-corruption case, and the sentence was delivered on merit according to the law. The PTI founder failed to present substantial evidence, and the case was fought on political grounds and in the media."
Attaullah Tarar also criticised the use of religion by the opposition leadership and former premier Imran Khan, saying, "If there was nothing to hide, why was a sealed envelope presented in the cabinet?"
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif separately said, "Al-Qadir is not a university; it has no charter and is a bogus institution with only 300-400 students. The £190 million belongs to the Pakistani people, yet its approval was sought from the cabinet in a sealed envelope."
Khawaja Asif also accused the PTI founder of misappropriating funds from Shaukat Khanum Hospital, stating, "Even Farah Gogi fled after taking an unknown amount of money. There were fights among them over the stolen wealth. The PTI founder committed fraud in the name of religion, power, and charity too."
This verdict can’t be overruled: Pervaiz Rashid
Former federal minister and PML-N senior leader Pervaiz Rashid commented, "The PTI founder dug a pit for us, but he fell into it himself. The National Crime Agency (NCA) investigated this crime and identified those responsible. This sentence will remain in force no matter which court they appeal to."
