Federal Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir Friday announced a Rs171 billion subsidy for Karachi under the head of electricity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
While addressing a press conference at the head office of K-Electric in Karachi, he said that 70 percent of the city was loadshedding free, adding that there was load management in the remaining part of the city due to low payment of electricity bills and power theft.
The federal minister said that the Government of Pakistan owned 24 percent shares of the K-Electric.
“The committee has been working under the chairmanship of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. The matters among K-Electric, Sui Southern and the government will be settled soon,” he added.
The federal minister said that it had been decided to close the markets by 8:00 PM to save electricity and reduce power generation from oil.
He added that the implementation of the decision of closing the markets by 8:00 PM was the responsibility of provinces and institutions.
Khurram Dastgir further said that 200 officials of electricity distribution companies from Punjab were present in the coastal areas of Sindh to protect the people and improve the electricity system amid the storm threat.
