Lawmen are still clueless about the Karsaz carnage perpetrators. Back-to-back bombings at the homecoming caravan of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto Shaheed 15 years ago claimed more than 180 lives and injured over 500 in Karachi. Every year on October 18, candles are burnt in memory of martyrs.
The first woman PM of a Muslim state and brave leader arrived in Karachi on October 18, 2007, at 1:45 PM after living in self-imposed exile for eight years. There was a large procession of people from all over the country to welcome her. It took them more than 10 hours to reach Karsaz from the Karachi airport
The dead bodies and the injured were shifted to different hospitals in the provincial capital. Two cases were registered in the police station concerned.
The blast site was also washed away that night, causing the loss of several important pieces of evidence. Police detained various people but they were also released due to a lack of evidence.
Reportedly, two key witnesses in the case were also killed – one in a target killing hit and the other in a bomb attack. DSP Nawaz Ranjha, the investigation officer, was too killed.
Many years have passed since the tragedy, but no progress could be made in the investigation of the incident. Every year those who lost their lives are remembered. Special ceremonies are held.
