Punjab anti-smog steps bearing fruit, says info minister

Caretaker Information Minister Aamir Mir has said the Punjab cabinet has made important decisions to deal with smog and other key issues.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday, he was addressing a press conference along with other ministers in Lahore on Monday
The purpose of the press conference is to inform about the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting, he said, adding that problem of smog arises every year.
The minister said all government agencies are working jointly and the situion is getting better as there is a complete ban on pollution-creating factories, smoke emitting vehicles and burning of crops.
He added 2,054 smoke-emitting vehicles are challaned and the fitness certificates of more than 1000 vehicles have been cancelled
The information minister said the CM Mohsin Naqvi directed the district administration to convey the fruits of reduction in the prices of petroleum products to the people.
Aamir Mir said no decision has been taken to privatize any government school.
The caretaker setup has limits and it has been working in its domain , he added.
Education Minister Mansoor Qadir stressed the government's actions to bring down smog are being criticized.
He said: “The smog situation has improved due to rain. Measures are being taken to control smog. In the current smog situation, the decision to close schools has been postponed.
“Propaganda is being done against government initiatives to better schools. The decision to close the school on Wednesday is not being enforced. We cannot compromise on children's health

DCOs were instructed that transport fares should be reduced immediately in wake of cut in fuel prices and the the cihef minister issued special instruction to rein in inflation while every Monday, a meeting to review smog will be held, the media was told.
Transport fares have not been determined by the government since 2020, Ibrahim Hasan Murad said , adding that the a summary of fixing the transport fares in the cabinet.
