Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s commanding position in the party has become at stake on Thursday as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has raised seven objections to the intra-party elections.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, PTI amended the party constitution to elect Imran Khan as the chairman because it was difficult to hold elections according to the party constitution.
The sources said that PTI called a meeting of its National Council to elect Imran Khan as party chairman, and by amending the National Council meeting, Imran Khan's panel won unopposed.
On June 22, 2022, the ECP objected to Imran Khan being the Chairman of PTI. Election Commission officer Mehtab Ahmed Khan issued a notice to the party in this regard.
The ECP raised the objection that the election for chairmanship of Imran Khan did not take place under the amended constitution and ordered to conduct elections by amending the National Council with a two-thirds majority, the sources said.
