Seven masked men subjected Professor Akhtar Khan Wazir of Abdul Wali Khan University of Mardan to torture, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

According to the university sources, unidentified men tortured the professor with sticks in front of Mega Mart when he was on his way home.

The students and the faculty members of Abdul Wali Khan University protested against the torture of political science professor Akhtar Khan.

The protesters blocked College Chowk for all types of traffic. They were chanting “Justice to Professor”.

They were also carrying placards inscribed with slogans “We Want Justice”.

City Mayor Himayatullah Mayar also participated in the protest demonstration and expressed solidarity with the protesters.

“There should be a transparent inquiry into the torture of Professor Akhtar Khan,” the city mayor said.

The protesters demanded registration of a case against the incident of torture of Professor Akhtar Khan within 24 hours and immediate arrest of the accused.

They also demanded that the professor should be protected.

Meanwhile, the students and civil society announced holding protest rallies against the incident in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
