In an important development, PIA’s newly added Airbus 320 has taken its maiden commercial flight from Islamabad to Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the PIA spokesperson on Wednesday, the authorities are active in the development of PIA despite the difficult economic conditions.
The new Airbus 320 took off on its first commercial flight, PK 309, from Islamabad to Karachi.
Presently, the PIA has 33 aircraft in its fleet, including 14 Airbus and 10 Boeing 777.
The spokesperson said that another Boeing 777 that was landed from the last seven months has returned to operation. The aircraft also took its first flight for Jeddah this morning as PK300. This is the second Boeing 777 to return to operations in the past few months.
The third aircraft of this series is also in the final stages of operation and will also become operational in the next few weeks, the spokesperson added.
With this process, a total of 25 aircraft, including 14 Airbus and 10 Boeing 777, will be part of PIA's operational schedule.
The operation will streamline PIA's schedule and also help in expanding the network.
The operation of the aircraft, especially the acquisition of spare parts, was a complex process in the context of the current exchange rate conditions, said the PIA spokesperson.
The operationalization of aircraft from its limited resources and the addition of operational aircraft to the fleet is an important milestone for PIA.
This is the highest number of active PIA aircraft since the Covid-19 and pandemic, the PIA spokesperson said.
Due to the personal interest of Federal Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, the process of increasing the number of aircraft is almost completed.
The aviation industry is on the way to full recovery, he added.
