Following the death of the World’s Oldest Person Nun Lucile Randon at 118, 115-year-old Spanish native Wednesday becomes the oldest person in the world.

Lucile Randon died in her sleep and passed on her crown of being the oldest person alive to Maria Branyas who moved to Catalonia when she was a child. Branyas was born on the 4th of March in 1907.

Maria Branyas even survived Covid in 2020 and became the oldest person to recover from it. Maria has been living in a shelter house in the Catalan town of Olot since she was 92. She played the piano, read newspapers and worked out every morning until she was 105. She took the title of the oldest person in Spain back in 2019.

Maria got married to a Catalan doctor Joan Moret when she was 23 in 1931 and had three children with him. In a recent interview, she stated that she had 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Branyas, being as old as she is has seen the demise of her parents, her husband who was 72 years old and even one of her children also.
