Pakistan football team Tuesday clinched a 1-0 victory over Cambodia registering their first-ever win in World Cup 2026 football qualifiers, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

The historic victory guided the Green Shirts to advance to the second round of the 2026 edition of football’s mega tournament.

This was the first time after 2011 that Pakistan will host a World Cup Qualifier.

Last time they had played against Bangladesh at Punjab Stadium in Lahore.

Both teams locked horns at the Jinnah Stadium Islamabad where they remained 0-0 in the first round.

Harun Hamid Khan became the national hero by netting the decisive goal in the 67th minute of this thrilling match held at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad, in front of an enthusiastic albeit modest crowd.

The match was the second leg of the tie between the two nations, with the first leg ending in a goalless draw on Cambodian soil, further intensifying the anticipation for the return fixture.

With this monumental win, Pakistan's national football team will now advance to Group G in the second round of the qualifiers, where they will face formidable opponents like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Tajikistan, setting the stage for some exhilarating clashes ahead.

The last time Pakistan hosted an international football match on home soil was in 2015 when they faced Afghanistan in Lahore.
