Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Murtaza Solangi has said the historic win of Pakistan against Cambodia not only rekindled the nation's football spirit but also marked the return of international football to Pakistan after several years of hiatus, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media after the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier football match between Pakistan and Cambodia, he congratulated the nation, football fans, and football team for Pakistan's first-ever victory in their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Cambodia and Pakistan boys played brilliantly, Murtaza Solangi said, adding the Cambodian team also deserves congratulations for putting up a good game.
The minister said today sports and football won.
Murtaza Solangi said that football is the people's game around the world and it is also popular in Pakistan.
He also lauded the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination for making best arrangements for the match.
Murtaza Solangi vowed that federal and provincial governments will play their role in the promotion of football. “The involvement of politics in sports has been a nightmare”, he said, adding that all efforts are being made to keep politics away from sports.
