Finance minister chairs ECC meeting

Newly-appointed Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has presided over a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee of the Federal Cabinet, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Tuesday.
Federal secretaries and senior officials attended the meeting that mulled over the issues of refineries and oil companies’ outstanding dues and other such matters.
The ECC approved a supplementary grant of Rs 68.74 billion for April. Miftah became the federal finance minister for six months, according to a notification.
According to sources, the government will give subsidy on petroleum products to provide relief to the people.
He and other members of Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet took oath from Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani. Reportedly, Miftah is all set to visit the US and the UK.
He also had telephonic contact with former finance minister Ishaq Dar and the duo discussed key issues related to the Pakistani economy and ties with international monetary organizations.
Ishaq Dar directed Muftah Ismail to make contact with international financial institutions without any delay. He will also visit London on his return from the US where he will hold a special meeting with ex-PM Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar.
