In a notable political development, former caretaker federal interior minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has officially joined the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

The declaration unfolded in the presence of former President Asif Ali Zardari, who visited Turbat for a daylong event, attending the party’s workers’ convention on Monday.

According to sources, Bugti, who resigned from the caretaker interior minister position a week ago intending to contest upcoming general elections, had decided to join the PPP approximately two months ago.

His decision to step down, adhering to the legal requirement for contesting polls, was marked by the submission of his resignation ahead of the election schedule.

This move marks a return for Sarfraz Bugti to the PPP, as he had previously contested the general elections in 2002 under the banner of the Pakistan People's Party. However, in the 2013 general elections, Bugti shifted his allegiance to the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz.

In 2018, Sarfraz Bugti played a pivotal role as one of the founders of the Balochistan Awami Party, a party formed at the provincial level. Despite his involvement, he faced defeat in the 2018 general elections.

Following the electoral setback, Sarfraz Bugti took a different political route and was later elected as a senator on the ticket of the Balochistan Awami Party.

His decision to re-join the PPP, a party he was affiliated with earlier in his political career, adds a new dimension to the political landscape.

The Turbat convention, where Bugti officially embraced the PPP, underscores the significance of his return to the party's fold and the potential impact on the regional political dynamics.
