Former DIG Lahore Dr Haider Ashraf spoke on Saturday about the ‘injustice’ done to him, saying that legal requirements were not fulfilled in his expulsion from the job.

In a statement, Haider Ashraf said that he had flown to Canada after the approval of absence leave for the brain surgery of his daughter whom the doctors had prescribed three operations.

He maintained that during his stay in Canada, he was asked to return to Pakistan within two days which was not possible for him during the spread of coronavirus. “I had informed the authorities about that,” he added.

“The time when my daughter was in the operation theatre, I was issued a show cause notice without any inquiry which is against the law,” the former DIG said, and adding that an appeal before the inquiry officer was also needed before issuance of the termination orders. “But in my case, every inquiry was denied. I have already reached the court for justice.”

Shedding light on his achievements in police career, the former DIG said that he was a Fulbright scholar, LLM, and medalist who had been nominated for ‘Star of Excellence’ in acknowledgement of his services. He also stated to have served as District Police Officer in several districts and suffered injuries twice in the line of duty.
