National Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Ashraf has dispelled the impression that he accepted the resignations of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNAs after ex-PM Imran Khan hinted at his return to the lower house of the parliament.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the National assembly speaker was talking to the media on Thursday.
“A PTI delegation visited me and I accepted the resignations after the due course, he said in reply to a question.
He added many PTI members contacted him and said they are still pondering over the matter of resignation.
He said he wanted the parliamentarians returned to the parliament
A couple of days ago, Pervaiz Ashraf accepted the resignations of more than 30 PTI MNAs, prompting the Election Commission of Pakistan to de-notify.
The NA speaker accepted 11 of the resignations, stating that the remaining lawmakers would be summoned individually for verification.
Imran Khan will contest the by-election for all the vacant seats and the ex-MNAs will run his election campaign in their constituencies.
Last year, the ex-PM won six National Assembly seats for his party in a by-election. The PTI had resigned en masse from the lower house of parliament following the ouster of PTI chief Imran Khan in April.
