The Lahore High Court has declared the Punjab government's notification to reduce the validity of the route permit of yellow cab taxis from three years to one year as illegal and nullified it, reported 24NewsHd TV channel Thursday.
The court approved the petition filed by the United Yellow Cab Taxi Union, which challenged the notification issued on April 9, 2021.
Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza delivered the reserved verdict on the petition, in which Mazhar Amin Advocate represented the taxi union.
The acting advocate general Asadullah Chatta appeared for the Punjab government and opposed the petition, but failed to satisfy the court.
The court observed that the notification was arbitrary and violated the fundamental rights of the taxi drivers.
