In an act of so-called honour killing, a man brutally murdered his sister, Sweera, by repeatedly attacking her with an axe in the jurisdiction of Sadiq Kalhoro Police Station in Khairpur.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, responding to the incident, SSP Khairpur Toheedur Rehman Memon led a police contingent to the scene and arrested the accused, Majeebur Rehman Narejo, along with the weapon used in the murder.
Khairpur police said the accused suspected his sister’s character, which allegedly motivated the heinous crime.
Police spokesman Waqar Soomro confirmed that a case of murder has been registered against the accused, and an investigation is underway.
Every year, hundreds of women and girls fall victim to honour killings in Pakistan, often at the hands of their relatives.
Despite stricter laws and public outcry, human rights organisations report that such incidents persist in the country.
