Smog-choked Punjab hires services of experts for inducing artificial rain

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi has said that fighting with smog is a national responsibility, urging all segments of society to play their due role in this regard, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to media in Lahore on Saturday, CM Naqvi said that government is taking all measures that are humanly possible to control smog in the province. H asked public to wear mask in order to avoid health issues arising out of toxic air conditions.
He said that smog air filter ionizer units would be installed at 12 points in Lahore. He informed that a decision has been taken to form a high-powered environmental commission in Punjab.
He revealed that services have been sought from experts for inducing artificial rain. He added that a team of Chinese experts which eliminated smog in Beijing would visit Lahore soon.
The chief minister said that another special technical team of the Punjab government would leave for Almaty on Wednesday.
He said that free registration of Qingqi rickshaws would be done in 30 days and then there would be a crackdown on unregistered rickshaws.
CM Naqvi said that there would be a ban on buying fuel motorcycles at the official level, now only electric bikes would be purchased.
He said that an environmental lab would be established for the first time in Punjab.
He also ordered a crackdown on petrol pumps selling substandard fuel.
Punjab CM inaugurates renovation work at Lahore Zoo
Chief Minister Punjab Syed Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated the renovation work in the Lahore Zoo on Saturday.
Talking to media on the occasion the CM said Zoo, Lahore Safari are the favorite entertainment places of children.
The Chief Minister of Punjab said that he is in touch with the Chinese Consul General to bring the panda to the zoo and in this regard he will also request the Prime Minister.
He said the zoo has the highest focus on animal health because animal welfare is very important.
Zoo, Lahore Safari will keep animals according to international standards and in this regard WWF and other organizations will be kept on board, said Syed Mohsin Naqvi.
He said that apart from Lahore Zoo, other zoos will also be renovated. “When the zoo opens in January, hundreds of species of animals will be seen”, he said.
