Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb calls ECC’s emergency meeting

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has convened an emergency meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) today, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.   

Quoting its sources, the channel has reported that the Power Division will present at the meeting the electricity package for the winter season (from December 2024 to February 2025) for approval. 

Under the package, announced by the prime minister over a week ago, there is a proposal to slash the electricity price for domestic, commercial and industrial consumers by Rs26 per unit. 

Giving further details, sources have said there is a proposal to give relief to domestic consumers between Rs11.42 per unit to Rs26 per unit; to commercial users between Rs13.46 per unit and Rs22.71 per unit and to industrial between Rs5.72 per unit and Rs15.05 per unit.

Sources have informed that there is also a proposal to provide relief to consumers in the tariff imposed on more power consumption compared with last year.
