The constitutional court of the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday disposed of the petition, seeking a ruling by the court against an extension in the army chief’s term in office due to non-perusal of the case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The seven-member bench, headed by Justice Aminnuddin Khan, also upheld the objections raised by the Registrar's Office to the plea.

A citizen named Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi had filed a petition in the apex court.

Also on Tuesday, the bench threw out the petition filed against the registration of two FIRs of the same incident, saying it was inadmissible for the hearing.

Admonishing the petitioner’s lawyer Waseem Ahmad Khan, Justice Jamal Mandokhel remarked that these were the cases due to which the number of pending cases had shot up to 60,000. “And we are reminded of this backlog time and again.”

“Why not we reject your petition along with a fine?” the judge asked.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that the apex court had already given its opinion in the case of Sughra Bibi. “Why did not you approach the high court for quashing the second FIR?” he questioned.
