The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested Advocate Zahid Mahmood Goraya and Advocate Mian Muneeb in connection with the recording and uploading of footage from within the Lahore High Court.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Advocate Zahid Mahmood Goraya, who was previously caught making a video inside the High Court and sharing it with various groups, was apprehended following an inquiry ordered by the judiciary.
The FIA Cybercrime Wing carried out the arrests under the directives of the Lahore High Court, aiming to uphold the sanctity of the courtroom.
Mian Muneeb's role is currently under investigation, and further inquiries will determine his involvement in the incident.
Zahid Mahmood Goraya had already been sentenced to six months in jail and fined Rs100,000 by the High Court for his misconduct in the courtroom.
This incident underscores the judiciary's firm stance on maintaining order and respecting the integrity of court proceedings.
The Lahore High Court, established on March 21, 1919, serves as the principal judicial authority for Punjab, the most populous province in Pakistan, with a jurisdiction extending across 36 districts.
The Lahore High Court supervises the functioning of over 2,000 judges and more than 30,000 staff members to uphold the rule of law for Punjab's 110 million residents.
Per Article 203 of the Constitution, Lahore High Court supervises and monitors the functioning of these judges and staff members.
Before partition, the jurisdiction of Lahore High Court stretched over the province of Delhi in the east and went up till the region of 'Tibet' in the north. In the west, this jurisdiction extended till the natural boundary formed by the mighty ‘Indus’ and, in the south, till the provinces of Sindh and Baluchistan.
