Woman sent to gallows for sharing blasphemous content on social media

A special court in Islamabad, set up under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), on Thursday handed down the death penalty besides slapping Rs300,000 in fine on a woman for sharing blasphemous content about the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on social media, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Judge Afzal Majoka sentenced Shagufta Kiran to death under section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The judge, under section 11 of the PECA Act, also awarded a seven-year prison term to the woman besides slapping Rs100,000 in fine on her.
The judge ordered that the convict should be hanged till death.
Majoka, however, said that Kiran had the right to appeal in the Islamabad High Court within 30 days of the pronouncement of the verdict.
