Police thwarted an attempt by terrorists to attack a police station and a checkpost in Peshawar, using modern technology to spot movement of the militants along the border with Afghanistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The police after deploying the Thermal Sights (thermal weapons) to monitor the movement of terrorists at night got alerted when militants made moves in border area of Peshawar and tribal district of Khyber on late Monday night.
The terrorists were looking for suitable position to launch an attack on the police station and the checkpost near Khan Khor, SSP Kashif Aftab Abbasi said and added about 10 terrorists were about to hit their targets when the police force challenged them and foiled their bid to launch an attack.
The SSP said the police’s timely action compelled the terrorists to retreat and escape using the cover of darkness.
Kashif Abbasi said a search operation has been launched in the area to hunt down the attackers.
The police were put on a high alert after the incident.
With enhanced security and state-of-the-art thermal weapons, perpetrators could not succeed in their nefarious designs.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police had recently purchased 40 Thermal Weapon Sights and planned buying 600 more to cope with the rising terror incidents in the province.
As per the police high-ups, in various incidents in Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu terrorists were targeted with the help of Thermal Visions at night time. They further said that through fitting Thermal Sights on any gun, enemies could be easily spotted at night through ‘Heat Signature’.
