Punjab CM Maryam directs swift completion of Lahore development plan

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the administration to expedite the completion of the Lahore Development Plan, emphasizing the development of a durable end-to-end waste disposal system for each zone of the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Sunday.

Chairing a meeting to review the progress of the plan, the Chief Minister highlighted key components, including the provision of a drainage system, construction of access roads and streets, installation of streetlights, and the restoration of parks.

CM Maryam instructed the authorities to establish a dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) to ensure the effective implementation of the development initiatives. She also approved a proposal for using separate colours to identify each zone, enhancing the organization and management of the project.

During the briefing, the Chief Minister was informed that Phase I of the development plan will focus on six zones: Ravi, Shalimar, Samanabad, Data Ganj Bakhsh, Nishtar Town, Gulberg, and the Railway area. This phase, costing Rs 74.15 billion, is projected to be completed within 10 months, benefiting over 9.3 million residents in these zones.

Furthermore, it was revealed that the construction, repair, and development of additional zones, including Allama Iqbal, Wagah, and Aziz Bhatti, will commence under Phase II once Phase I is completed.

The meeting was attended by Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Local Government & Community Development Zeeshan Rafique, and Special Assistant Zeeshan Malik. Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Principal Secretary to the CM Sajid Zafar Daal, Secretary of Local Government, and other senior officers were also present.
