Deaths from consuming poisonous milk in Khairpur reach nine

One more girl, whose condition had deteriorated after drinking poisonous milk at tehsil Pir Jo Goth of Khairpur, died on Tuesday, taking the death toll to nine, while the condition of three others was critical till last reports came in, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Police said the girl who had died was five-year-old Maryam.
On the other hand, families of the deceased children said they had taken their bodies to a graveyard for burial on a tractor trolley after the district administration failed to provide ambulances to them.
They said that while on the one hand, their kids died because of doctors’ negligence, on the other they were not provided means of transportation of the bodies.
No elected representative or any government official attended the funeral prayers for the deceased.
On Monday, 24News reported that seven persons, including five teenage girls, had died after drinking poisonous milk at Pir Jo Goth tehsil in Khairpur.
Taking notice of the incident, Commissioner Sukkur division Fayyaz Abbasi sought a report from the Khairpur deputy commissioner.
Police said that the deceased had been identified as 18-year-old Asghar, 15-year-old Dilbar, Fehmida, Ganj Baby and Sonia Brohi, and two other girls who breathed their last at the hospital during treatment.
Police further said they were investigating how the milk was mixed with poison.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the authorities concerned.
