WhatsApp is launching a new feature for its status updates, enabling users to share music alongside their photos and videos. This update, currently available in the Android beta version (2.25.2.5), aims to make status updates more dynamic and interactive, drawing inspiration from Instagram's music-sharing feature.

With the latest update, users will notice a music icon in the status update section. By tapping the icon, they can search for their favorite songs, artists, or trending tracks. Once a song is selected, users can add a 15-second clip to photo-based statuses or customize the duration for video statuses, with the music duration matching the video length.

This feature is part of a collaboration between Meta and Universal Music Group, granting users access to an extensive music catalog directly within WhatsApp. After successful beta testing on Android and iOS, the feature is expected to roll out globally soon.

In addition to personalizing posts, viewers of music-enhanced statuses can tap the song displayed to visit the artist's Instagram profile. This update complements WhatsApp’s broader efforts to improve user interaction, building on recent status section enhancements, such as an updated interface and new reaction options.

Earlier, WhatsApp introduced features to make chats more engaging. These include camera effects, selfie stickers, quicker reactions, and sticker pack sharing.
