The first batch of 30 electric buses has arrived in Pakistan from China in a significant boost for Islamabad's Urban Transport Project, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.

These buses are set to be transferred from Karachi to Islamabad following clearance procedures and are expected to reach the Capital city by the end of next week.

Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Mohammad Ali Randhawa emphasized the importance of this project, directing that subsidies be provided to senior citizens and students to ensure accessibility and affordability.

The meeting, presided over by the Chairman, also addressed the need for a swift operational timeline for the construction of the bus depot, with Randhawa requesting a detailed schedule. The Chairman ordered the activation of charging points to be expedited.

Furthermore, it was disclosed that the remaining 70 buses are soon to arrive in Pakistan, which will further bolster the fleet. The CDA has awarded tenders for the construction of bus depots at strategic locations, including I-9, Tiramree Chowk, and Zeero Point, with the promise that the lowest bid will soon secure the tender.

The project's ambition extends beyond current plans, with a comparative review suggested against the Punjab Metro Bus Authority's model and proposals to extend the route to the diplomatic enclave.

Randhawa has directed that the Islamabad Bus Service be developed as a model project, setting a high standard for urban transport across the region.

He also issued a stern warning that any delays beyond the established timeline would be unacceptable, underscoring the commitment to timely completion and operational excellence.
