Government announces 39 public holidays and optional holidays for 2024

The government of Pakistan has issued a notification of public holidays and optional holidays for the year 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.
According to the notification, there will be 16 public holidays and 23 optional holidays in the year 2024.
The public holidays include Kashmir Day on 5th February, Pakistan Day on 23rd March, Labor Day on 1st May, Eid-ul-Fitr from 10th to 12th April, Eid-ul-Adha from 17th to 19th June, Ashura on 16th and 17th July, Independence Day on 14th August, Eid Milad-ul-Nabi on 16th September, Iqbal Day on 9th November, Quaid-e-Azam/Christmas Day on 25th December and the day after Christmas for Christian employees on 26th December.
The optional holidays include various religious and cultural festivals for different communities. The notification also stated that the Islamic holidays are based on the expected dates of the lunar calendar and a separate notification will be issued according to the sighting of the moon.
Moreover, the notification said that there will be three bank holidays on 1st January, 11th March and 1st July.
The notification also clarified that Muslim government employees will not get more than one optional leave in a year and non-Muslim government employees will not get more than three optional leaves in a year.
