Amendments to Judicial Commission rules 'approved'

A meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan was held on Saturday with Supreme Court Chief Justice Yahya Afridi in the chair, 24NewsHD reported.
According to sources, the meeting approved amendments to the Judicial Commission rules. Only minor amendments have been made to some rules. According to the amended rules, the condition of medical test for the additional judges has been removed. It will be the Judicial Commission’s discretion to ask for or waive off the requirement of intelligence report on a candidate for additional judge’s position. Three names will be considered at the name of appointment of the Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice. It will be mandatory to give reasons if the senior most judge is not appointed chief justice of the LHC.
Also at Saturday’s meeting, the Judicial Commission gave a six month extension to the constitutional bench.
At the time of appointment of Supreme Court chief justice, high courts would recommend five judges.
