Despite clear instructions by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, the Punjab government’s Standing Committee on Finance on Monday rejected the summary for the release of funds worth Rs6 billion for the financial assistance and payment of arrears to the family members of deceased government teachers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The department of School Education had demanded Rs2 billion in funds from the Punjab Finance Department, while arrears totaling Rs2.74 billion are outstanding under the head of leave encashment.  

Only in Lahore, Rs1.48 billion are to be paid to the teachers in arrears under the leave encashment.  

A total sum of Rs40.50 million is still to be paid to the families of deceased teachers in Lahore; while in Dera Ghazi Khan the amount stands at Rs13.90 million, Rs36 million in Sialkot and Vehari each; Rs17 million in Rahim Yar Khan, while other district administrations, including that of Hafizabad, have demanded from the authorities the release Rs2.75 billion for the payment of arrears to the teachers’ families.
