Some unknown militants riding a motorcycle opened fire at a police picket in front of press club in Chaman, critically injuring a policeman on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
However, a terrorist was killed in the retaliatory fire by the police while his accomplice managed to speed away on his two-wheeler.
According to sources, the policeman who was performing security duty at the picket and was hit by the bullet, his condition was critical.
On Friday, some TTP militants stormed the heavily guarded Karachi Police Office after lobbing a hand grenade at its main entrance. In the ensuing gun battle between the terrorists and law personnel, three policemen, one Rangers official and a citizen embraced martyrdom, while at least 19 men, mostly police and Rangers officials, sustained injuries.
The storming of the Karachi police chief’s office came on the heels of attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and areas bordering Afghanistan. Since the talks with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan broke down in November last year, the militant group has intensified its attacks while insurgents in Balochistan have also stepped up their violent activities and formalised a nexus with the outlawed TTP.
Most wanted TTP terrorist arrested from Karachi
Karachi police have arrested a most wanted TTP terrorist from Chakiwara Police Station limits, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The TTP terrorist was identified as Sayem Omer son of Muhammad Omer.
SSP City Arif Aziz said police recovered two hand grenade from his possession and the arrested man belongs to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
The accused was in the area to undertake some terror act and waiting for a chance, the SSP City said.
The police patrolling party found him standing in the area in a suspicious condition and arrested him.
He said a case has been registered and police are investigating. He said information was being gathered about his past criminal record and his other accomplices.
