Petroleum products’ import drops in ongoing financial year

A reduction has been recorded in the import bill of petroleum products, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.  

According to a report, the import bill, after a drop of 15 per cent, came down to $1.32 billion in January 2024 from $1.55 billion in December 2023.

Similarly, the report says that compared with the seven months of the last financial year (FY), 12 per cent less petroleum products were imported during the seven months of the ongoing FY. “While petroleum products worth $9.33 billion were imported during seven months of the current FY, products worth $10.61 billion were imported during the same period in the preceding FY,” the report adds.    

Likewise, it informs that compared with January 2023, 38 per cent drop was noticed in these imports in January 2024 which stood at over $420 million.

On the contrary, the report adds, crude oil worth $36.60 million was imported in January 2024, which marks 13 per cent increase when compared with the figures recorded in January 2023.

Similarly, LNG worth $440 million was imported in January 2024, up by 83 per cent from what was recorded in the same month last year.   

The report informs that LPG worth $80 million was imported in January 2024, which marks an increase by 22 per cent when compared with January 2023.
