Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced that Chief Minister has been made Chancellor of all public universities replacing the Governor, reported 24NewsHDTV channel. 

According to KP Assembly’s Secretariat notification, now on ward Chief Minister will appoint Vice-Chancellors (VCs) in all public sector universities.  

The KP government has introduced a bill to reform university management. After the approval of the bill by the assembly, the Chief Minister has replaced Governor as the Chancellor of all public universities. The Chief Minister will also appoint Vice-Chancellors (VCs), transferring more authority to the provincial government. 

The authority to appoint vice-chancellors will also remain with the chief minister and the academic search committee will send 3 names to the chief minister for the vice-chancellor. Under the bill, the tenure of the vice-chancellor has been increased to 4 years. 

The tenure of the VCs will be subject to the review of the monitoring committee formed by the government, while the monitoring committee will evaluate the performance of the vice chancellor and the tenure can be terminated if the performance is less than 65 percent. 

According to the amendment bill 2024, the vice chancellors in women universities will be only women.
