Imran's trial in military court only after gathering solid evidence: Law Minister

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that the decision to prosecute PTI Chairman in the military court will be made in the light of solid evidence, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in London on Tuesday, he said that after the report of the joint investigation of anti-terrorism, a decision should be taken on whether the case of the PTI Chairman PTI will be tried by a military court or not.
The minister maintained all legal obstacles regarding Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan have been removed.
Federal Law Minister said that peaceful protest is the basic right of every political party but the violent events of May 9 were planned by the PTI leadership to destroy the peace of the country.
“Military and other installations were targeted under a well-thought plan, he asserted.
Following PTI Chairman’s arrest on May 9 in connection with an alleged corruption case, the country saw violent protests targeting sensitive state and military installations, he recalled.
He said that less than fifty percent of cases were registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act against May 9 rioters.
Azam claimed that after conducting a thorough investigation, sixty cases registered under the anti-terrorism act have been sent to military courts.
He said that the accused will have the right to a transparent trial in military courts, and they can file appeals against the decisions in higher courts.
The law minister said that there is room in the constitution and the Supreme Court has also decided that civilian cases can be tried by military courts.
“The prosecution has the right to cooperate with speedy courts to bring the accused to justice,” he added.
The minister assured that the basic rights of the accused will not be affected by military courts.
“The attackers on London and Capitol Hill were also punished. Nothing is happening strangely in Pakistan,” he added.
He said that Nawaz Sharif will come to Pakistan and lead the election campaign as the consultation process has been continued.
He said that verdict of lifelong disqualification was not correct.
“A person convicted of murder also becomes eligible to go to the assembly after 5 years, he said adding that the law will soon be passed by the National Assembly regarding the Mian Nawaz Sharif.
