The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has written a letter to the Governor of Punjab regarding complaints about misuse of authority by acting vice-chancellors in different Punjab universities, reported 24NewsHd TV channel on Wednesday.
The HEC has received several complaints regarding misuse of authority by vice-chancellors. The acting VCs were accused of overstepping their limits, misusing their power, and making decisions beyond their jurisdiction.
After receiving the complaints, the HEC wrote a letter to the Governor of Punjab which reads, ‘The acting VCs should be strictly barred from making important policy and financial decisions’.
In the letter, HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed states, ‘Any attempt by the acting VCs to alter the decisions made by the regular VCs will not be accepted’.
Moreover, ‘As many as 28 universities of Punjab are without regular vice-chancellors’, said Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, adding ‘Due to lack of regular vice-chancellors, good governance in universities and the quality of education is being compromised’.
‘More than half of the universities of Punjab are deprived of regular vice-chancellors’, said the HEC chairman.
‘Regular vice-chancellors should be appointed in Punjab universities as soon as possible,’ he suggested.
