Railway reduces fare up to 54% for passengers

Pakistan Railways authorities have reduced the additional fare, charged to short-distance passengers under the rationalization policy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to report, Railway authorities have reduced the fares for passengers travelling between 1 km and 200 km.
The fares of all classes of trains have been reduced for travel within 200 km.
The decision was taken for convenience of passengers, traveling in trains on short distance routes.
Passengers from Lahore to Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lala Musa, Sialkot, Pattoki, Kasur, Narowal, Okara and Sahiwal could benefit from the rationalization policy.
Earlier, train fares were being charged more than 50 percent as compared to road fares.
Railway sources said that the rationalization policy has reduced economy class fares by up to 54 percent for journeys up to 200 km in some trains while AC class fares have also been reduced by 40 percent.
The fare of Khyber Mail train economy class from 1 km to 130 km was Rs250, which has been reduced to Rs100.
Railway authorities have issued a notification of reduction in train fares which will be implemented from May 21 (today).
