IHC directs Govt not to allow protests in violation of laws

Islamabad High Court has directed government not to allow protests, rallies or sit-ins in violation of the new law on protests, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amir Farooq released the written order after hearing a petition of traders against PTI protest call in Islamabad on November 24. IHC orders Government not to allow protests in violation of the new law on protests. The Court ordered that the administration should take all measures in accordance with the law to maintain peace. The Court said under Public Order 2024, Islamabad administration should not allow dharna, rally or protest against the prevailing law. 

The court ordered the Interior Secretary to form a committee under the chairmanship of Interior Minister or a concerned person. The court said that Chief Commissioner Islamabad should also be included in the committee. 

The Court said it would be appropriate for the government to form a committee under the chair of Interior Minister or any other person. Islamabad High Court orders not to allow protests, rallies or sit-ins in violation of the new law on protests. 

The court said Committee formed by government will engage PTI leadership. Chief Commissioner Islamabad should also be included in the committee. The court is sure that when this communication takes place, there will be some progress. Islamabad High Court order said the government Committee should apprise PTI leadership of sensitive situation during Belarus President's visit. 

The Court said if there is no breakthrough in the negotiations, the parties should ensure the law and order situation. The Government and administration should take steps to maintain law and order in Islamabad. No one on behalf of PTI appeared before the court in today's proceedings, the written order said. Court hoped PTI will consider the aspects raised by Interior Minister. It is hoped that the PTI leadership will have a meaningful dialogue with the committee formed, Islamabad High Court said. The Islamabad High Court sought a report from the Interior Secretary on November 27.
