The federal government has completed preparations to impose restrictions on non-filers under Tax Laws Amendment Bill 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
According to the Amendment Bill, various types of restrictions on unregistered persons in Tax Net were proposed.
Under the Amendment Bill, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) can ban unregistered persons from operating bank accounts.
Under the bill, FBR will also have the power to ban the transfer of immovable property or seize it and will also have the power to seal business premises.
Unregistered persons will have the power to ban the purchase, registration and booking of vehicles.
The ban on the purchase of rickshaws, motorcycles and tractors for unregistered persons will not apply.
The ban will also not apply to the purchase of vehicles up to 800cc.
Under the bill, banking transactions of unregistered persons will be restricted.
Details of close family members can be included in income tax returns.
Details of parents, spouse and son under 25 years of age will be included in returns.
Details of unmarried or widowed daughters will also be included in income tax returns.
Under the bill, banking and tax-related data of high-risk individuals will be shared.
The bill proposed to abolish the categories of filer and non-filer.
The bill further proposed introducing the categories of eligible and ineligible individuals.
The bill also proposed various amendments to the Sales Tax Act 1990.
Under the bill, the people affected by the decisions will be given the right to appeal.
The people affected will have the right to appeal to the Chief Commissioner of Inland Revenue within 30 days.
