The Peshawar High Court has issued notice to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Secretary Information Technology (IT) in petition against slow internet, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The hearing was conducted by a two-member bench consisting of Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Mohammad Ejaz Khan.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Nauman Mohib Kakakhel, submitted that the internet is extremely slow across the country, due to which internet users are facing difficulties.
What is this firewall? Justice Ejaz Anwar questioned.
The petitioner’s lawyer explained that it is something that can be intercepted and controlled on a digital platform.
If the firewall is installed, then when they want it, audio and videos will not be downloaded and only messages will be sent, Counsel for the petitioner further explained.
There has been a problem with the internet for many days, Justice Ejaz Anwar remarked.
There is a problem all over Pakistan, and the government is not doing anything about it, the petitioner's counsel said.
Does the government not even know why this is happening? Justice Ejaz Anwar questioned.
The government is saying that it has happened by using VPNs. Justice Ejaz Anwar remarked.
The government has forced people to use VPNs, and using a VPN is risky, but there is no other option now, counsel for the petitioner said.
However, the court issued notice to the PTA and Federal Secretary of IT.
