Categorically stating that the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) candidates did not need other political parties’ support for getting elected to assemblies, the party spokesperson Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said that the seat adjustment agreement the IPP had reached with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was on paper, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In an interview with 24News in Sialkot, she said not only her politics had been anti-PML-N right from the very beginning, but voters of her constituency too were opposed to the party. “I was opposed to any kind of seat adjustment with the PML-N right from the word go,” she said. “What happens in the world does have an impact on any country’s domestic politics,” Firdous said, adding, “For us, Pakistan comes first. If any country attacks Pakistan, we will stand with our armed forces.”

IPP spokesperson was of the view that the leadership of both Iran and Pakistan had shown sagacity by not escalating tensions in the region. “This has certainly disappointed those who wanted to see these two Muslim countries pitted against each other.”

Firdous opined that terrorism was the issue, which was a headache for both the countries. “Whether terrorism is in Iran or Pakistan, it is a matter of concern for us,” she said, and added it was obligatory on the governments of both countries to work to address the issue.
